Chinese New Year 2008 with Chinese Association of Science, Economics and Culture of South Florida (CASEC)

Happy Chinese New Year!!!The Chinese New Year is just around the corner and preparations are already underway for celebrations in Boca Raton!

This year the CASEC is hosting a stellar event which will include a wonderful program starting with the high quality performance by professional artists and entertainers from China and other cities in USA and of course our local talented performers. The program includes full-costumed Peking Opera, “Bian Lian” - changing face, tenor solo, acrobatics, folk dance, music pieces and many more. The dinner will follow the performance. There will also be kids program, raffle, dance and karaoke during and after the dinner.

ChinaVine team members dish on “documentary”

Eric Schon and Dr. Kristin Congdon discuss ChinaVineAs the kick-off open luncheon on Tuesday, November 13, for International Education Week ‘07, team members Kristin Congdon, PhD, and Eric Schon, lead web developer and senior in Digital Media, discussed the ChinaVine Chinese folk art documentary project, partnerships with US and Chinese universities, and shared experiences of students currently living and working in China for the project.

Students, staff and emeritus faculty attended the event and excitedly asked questions about what interdisciplinary opportunities were available and how team members worked together.  There was also discussion about the integration of tools such as blogging.  Both team members currently working in China, graduate student Mike Diaz and undergraduate student Sarah Long, have contributed and their blogs can be found on the ChinaVine website.

ChinaVine site released!

Thanks to the diligent and sleepless work of teams of students at Shandong University, University of Oregon, and University of Central Florida, the ChinaVine site is composed and fully functional! Additions will be posted as research continues, so keep checking back!!!

UCF Theatre Professor awarded at Tech Conference in Beijing!

Professor John Shafer awarded for presentation in Beijing, ChinaUCF Professor John Shafer of the Theater department attended the annual conference of the International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTD) in Beijing, October 8-10, 2007. The invitation came in appreciation of Professor Shafer’s participation in the cutting-edge multi-media theater project, “Adding Machine”, which takes place in several locations simultaneously and interactively with the help of modern technology. The lecture topic was “Convergence, Collaboration, and Connectivity”.  Shafer was one of only three invited speakers in a field of 150+ conference presenters.

2nd Florida International Leadership Conference

The conference aims to give international students and study-abroad students a unique opportunity to learn from one another, the share educational experiences, and to promote global education.

Conference Goals:
-Enhance leadership skills
-Promote friendships and networks among international & study-abroad students
-Recognize and reward student leaders who promote international understanding on campus
-Challenge students to see themselves as global leaders
-recognize the differing styles of leadership across cultures

Registration fee is $45, which covers: meals, lodging, sessions, entertainment, and registration materials. Students should submit application forms to their study abroad or international student advisor.
