We’re building a library of faculty experiences in Asia.
Please share your experiences of traveling and educating in Asia. Simply send OIS several relevant photos and a brief description (1-2 paragraphs) of your travels anywhere in Asia!!! Be sure to note any research or publications that may have resulted and how UCF was represented.
We’re also interested to know about any upcoming trips!

In September of 2006 Kristin Congdon, Professor of Film and Humanities, traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Jinan with several faculty and administrators from the University of Oregon (UO).

In December 2005, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies, Jeff Moore, presented workshops and a percussion seminar in Kowloon, Hong Kong. He served as the Chief Judge and guest conductor at the Hong Kong Marching Band Association Championships.

The Making of ChinaVine: A Website Project that Addresses Issues of Representation, Aesthetics and Collaboration
The UCF research faculty luncheon series will continue in April with a presentation by Dr. Kristin Congdon. Dr. Congdon will give an overview of the Folkvine Project and explain how it has formed the foundation for ChinaVine. She will also talk about collaborative research practices and ways in which web-based research is raising questions about representation and ethics.

Dr. Congdon and team start fieldwork in Shandong Province, China:
Says Dan Novatnak of the team:
“On our first day of fieldwork we visited and interviewed four folkartists at their villages in the countryside here in Shandong Province. We draw quite a crowd in each village where westerner’s with camera crews rarely venture. Each time we stop the neighborhood comes out to see the people and the process.”

Dr. Patrick D. Murphy, Professor of English and Coordinator of the UCF Asian Studies Minor visited China from April 1st through April 13th on a visit sponsored primarily by Shanghai International Studies University.
